Anybody having any luck?

Postby Matt Steed » Sun Oct 13, 2019 7:54 pm

Our season opened October 1st. I have made 11 sits so far. I have only saw two deer. The weather is just now getting good, the acorns are starting to drop.

What about everyone else? Are y’all having any luck?

My son passed on this one yesterday morning at 7:45am 12yds broadside. it was his first sitting for the season he had pretty good morning 3 bucks 2 doe walked by him. I am getting ready to start this week. from what I am hearing it is time to head to the woods in the mornings. We finally had good weather this last week and it looks good from here out. high 30's for morning lows have these bucks up and moving. I seen a real keeper last weekend in the morning from my house with two other smaller bucks headed into my woods. It is starting to happen and its time to get serious with theses cooler temps.

Well, this is my kind of luck. I had five deer under me. I climbed a tree this morning and when I sit down, it just didn’t feel comfortable. The tree was leaning forward, I was leaning forward, the stand was leaning forward and the deer came to my right side. My right arm kept hitting the tree when I would draw my bow, I finally got what I thought was a good anchor and I slap missed. Shot right over her back. On the positive side, I have located some deer. They are eating red oak acorns.

Well Matt, we’ve all had a few of those dirty broadsheads over the years. Reposition that stand if possible and give it another shot. You’ll be fine! Best of luck .......Uncle Jim

Well Matt I should of been done friday evening 10/18/19 little past 6;00pm had two shooter bucks caught me off guard sitting down in my summit viper. I picked the right tree had the wind and perfect evening. I didnt get the bow off the hanger got busted BIG TIME. The first buck was two minutes ahead of the second one and wasnt expecting a HAWG of a buck following up. first buck I had right in front me head down quartering slightly away as I finally get myself out of my seat with my back against tree I finally get stood up without being noticed. As his head was down feeding slight quartering away I reached for my KBX quickly and thats when I got picked off. The second buck was a real PIG of a buck 10 or so yds behind him in slight cover never seen him or heard him come in course I was focused on the first one. One BIG problem second Buck seen me reach for my widow. After two long minutes of motionless with my hand on my riser he wasnt having any off it. he started stomping that front leg setting the 8ptr on high alert 10yds in front of him. It was game over the big stud rolled back on those hind quarters peeled out there the way they came down the corn edge. The old man should be done. Bowhunting at its finest all tell you. Just wasnt expecting two huge bucks to move 1 1/2 hours before dark. Not on the 18th Oct. Old age is catching me if that would been my younger days I would been standing and ready. I'm blaming my mishap on a sore bad back that wont let me stand for hours at a time anymore. As much as I hate to admit it i'm just not what I used to be. But i'm still in the game and that is all that matters. Its early and that wont happen again the rest of this season all tell ya that. Stay positive its still early the best is yet to come. Hang in there.

The Red Oak acorns are just now starting to drop heavy. I could hear the deer crunching the acorns. I will go back later in the week and pick a different tree. I should have took the time and repositioned myself after realizing the tree was leaning heavily forward. This is my second year using the Lonewolf Assault and sticks, it has been so much fun, but I still have a lot to learn.

As long as the doe’s are in the area, a buck should be close next month.

Matt the picture of this buck was taken sunday morning 10/20/18 by my sons hunting partner. There were group bachelor bucks came into the woods only to bed down within 65 yds of Dustins tree stand. They named this Buck Thomas the train. He hangs out along an old abandon rail road track and is Big as a Train. He is huge Buck. Dustin was in for a marathon hunt this morning never got out of his tree sunday. Awesome photo it is. These Bucks are really moving in these cool temps here in the Buckeye state. Its starting to happen in a Big way.
