Setting up 50# PSA

Postby ChadMR82 » Fri Sep 27, 2019 2:34 pm

I have a 50# @ 28" PSA being made right now. Little heavier than my 43# PSA but wanted something for elk next year. I draw 28". Thinking of trying a .400 spine with 200-250 up front. I am sure this will probably put me in the ballpark and only bareshaft tuning will give me the real answer, but curious to hear what you guys are shooting out of your 50# PSA or PMA (since they are both cut 3/16" past center). Thanks. Im trying to stay around 10.5 gpp so about 525 grains. That is just what my brain is use to with my other setup so Im trying to keep similar trajectory.

Chad, I would think a 400 GT at about 29 to 29 1/2” using a 175 grain point and 3x5” feathers would get you close. That should give you an arrow that weighs around 500 to 525 grains. Everybody’s shooting dynamics are different and that can influence what you need. Best of luck........ Uncle Jim

My PSA is 49 @ 28. I'm shooting 30in 400s. I have a 50gr brass insert and shooting 175gr points. These arrows shoot a little weak bareshafting for me. I prefer a little weak, because if anything, we will short draw. Once fletched they fly awesome

agree with Jim C above

my 50# PTFx (same geometry bow in one piece) use 400 GT or 2117 aluminums with 175 grain points with standard inserts -
