Limb length vs draw length

Postby erictetterton » Sat Aug 25, 2018 11:09 pm

Want to hear true life experiences on limb length and your draw length in terms of accuracy and performance. I have a 60” KB and I’m drawing 29.5”. BW states that the 60” KB is for 29-33” DL, so i am at the low end of their recommendation. What has been your experience in limb length to suit your shooting abilities. Does the middle of the recommended or the shorter or the longer suit you the best?

Eric,
Pulled up some older threads, "PMA 60" or 62" Limbs" & "Perfomance Question" from Pages 9 &10 of the forum.
The Draw Force Curve that Blacky gave me permission to download back in 10/16 disappeared with the last upgrade so I will repost here.
I also made some comments to a similar question for Chad on the Fan Club this morning.
The DF Curve is for a 58" PCH which has a recommended draw length range of 26-30 inches. While it is not a KB it is representive of why BW notes a certain draw length range for a particular length bow.

Eric,
The key points are;
You are still in the recommended range. That's a plus!
Ken Beck's tests showed that performance differences are nil between bows a few inches apart or one that is drawn low in the range vs higher in the range.
If you underdraw the recommended range by an 1" or more, you will feel a "thump" through the riser upon release and the limbs may feel like they are tugging or fighting you as you anchor.
If you start to overdraw to the end of the range or beyond
your drawing elbow feels like it hit a wall.
I personally like the 50-80% of the range because the last couple of inches to anchor is a consistent lbs per inch like shown on the DF curve, I get this with my 58" PMA on a 27 draw and prefer that length, but...
I also have 60" PMA limbs that I draw lower in the range. I can comfortably hold the 60" a little longer than I can the 58" limbs.
These two pairs of limbs are within a pound of each other and bareshaft the same aluminum arrow setup.
Would a 58" KB fit you better? Maybe, maybe not. You have a longer draw, the finger pinch, IMO may be the deciding factor. But performance wise you are not missing much.
FWIW,
I asked about a LH 56" KB to be bought to Compton in June to try out. They don't have one in 56", but they have one in 58", so you could test drive if you desire.
Hope all of this helps.
Sincerely,
Hawk

Thanks for the info Hawk. Blacky’s evidence is pretty clear and just what I needed to see.
