SC Turkey - OBXarcher

April first was our opener. I am working nights so I headed out right after I got off at 6. Got there a little late since it's about a 2 mile walk back in. Right at 7:00AM they started gobbling. Sounded like a hundred behind me and to the south. I called a couple times to make sure they new I was there, then shut up. I have no confidence in my calling. I only use a box and slate, never could learn to use a diaphragm. They kept gobbling right up to 8:45, then went silent. I started getting tired and decided that I would leave at 10:00 to go home and get some sleep. At 9:45 I stood up in the blind and looked out and there he was 2 ft from my decoy. He started to mad and puffed up nice. A 8 yd shot anchored him in his tracks.

That's a gooden! Shows to go you that dedication & hard work pays off. Reminds me of when I would arise very early & drive like a bandit for 45 min. to get to a federal refuge. Ride a bike for 30 min. to get to the interior. Could only hunt for 30 min.. Kill a turkey. Then, get on the bike for another 30 min. back to the truck. Drive like a bandit again for 45 min. & get to work by 8:00am. Folks at work thought I was nuts! Did that 6 years in a row & tagged 6 gobblers. Then I died.

Way to go OBXarcher!! I have a jinx on me when it comes to gobblers with the bow. Bear, Elk and whitetails... no problem, just haven't been able to close the deal on turkeys. Our season starts later this month and I'm hoping to break the jinx. Congrats on a fine trophy.

This is actually my third turkey with the recurve. I have never shot one with a gun but am now 3 for 3 with the recurve. WISH I would have that luck with deer or bear !

Mark congrats, nice bird! I have killed them with gun, but never with a bow. I am hoping to get out this year and hunt with my bow. Our season opens on April 23rd. Don't you worry, we are both going to kill bears this year. Happy Easter to you and your family. Uncle Jim
