Tying On Catwhiskers - DennyK

Sorry, I do not know how to put in a link, However it is a You Tube Video titled Tying On Catwhiskers by Manao Productions. This is by far the best wat I have ever seen how to do it. I followed the gentlemen's instructions with exception I used 1.375 length instead of 1.25. On my 60" Psa's I placed them 9 & 15 inches from the top string loop and 10 & 16 inches from the bottom string loop keeping them 6" apart. The strings I'm using are 10 strand SBD's made with D10 and recurve wraps. Once the whiskers are tied in place they can be adjusted for fine tuning. Up to this time I swore by wool Whisps or wool yarn balls. This in my opinion has got them beat. Both bows are braced at 8.75 and my average arrow weight is between 550 % 600 grains. They may be slightly heavier then wool, but being waterproof and burr proof was a big bonus for me. Bows are just as quiet as with the wool.

I have also come to the conclusion that CWs are as good as any material after yrs. & yrs. & yrs. of experimenting. I currently mix 2 on each end of the string with a spider in between. Or, 2 spiders with a CW in between. Seems to do the job. Spiders just look cool. Looks like a spider attacking a bug. If a deer looks up at me, it just thinks a spider is having lunch. Sort of like Barry Wensel wearing his hat sideways. Deer think he is looking the other way & pay him no mind.

Watched the video. Great way of tying in CWs! I'll do it on my bows tomorrow. Will help combat my cabin fever.

One big plus to doing it that way is you use way less material and waste none. After your first clinch knot see if you feel like a bug in a spider web. :)

Pretty timely Denny, was just about ready to go to cat whiskers from the spiders. The spiders are pretty conveinient but don't last very long. Regards.

Hey Allen, did you ever get a chance to tie on those catwhiskers, if so how did they work out for you? Tx Denny

Denny, Thanks so much for the link and information about how to tie on catwhiskers. I too have a PSA. Following your and the You Tube instructions about whisker installation and placement, along with stiktamers dramatically quieted my bow to the equal of my best long bows. I also found as you did that higher brace height helps. For me the SBD made no difference with either speed or sound. Thanks again for the direction and sharing. Scott

Liked it. Thanks for calling it to our attention. Never thought of doing them that way. Shows to go you, never too experienced or old to learn something new!
