Water Buffalo - Tine Tickler

Putting together a Buffalo hunt in Australia , its on my bucket list. A question for you guys that have done this. I have nerve damage in my left arm, so far I'm back up to shooting 53lbs, I believe I can work up to maybe 65lbs. will be using Zwickey no mercy, with weighted 5/16 carbons at 750 grs. In your experienced opinion would that be enough?? Thanks for your input!, Tickler!

I would ask Denny Sturgis and get advise from him.

I think you would be OK with an accurate shot and good tuning. If you center a wide rib you need enough power to catch the far lung or just shoot for the heart. They are usually not impossible to stalk in close on.

Fred Eichler took one with a 54 LB recurve made by Hoyt , and He had them name the bow buffalo after that kill. But Denny has been there and done that so he knows first hand, I only know what I've read...

I'm pretty sure Fred said he went up from his normal draw weight and arrow weight for his water buffalo hunt. I'll ask him at the Bowhunting SuperShow in a couple weeks.

I would appreciate that. Its going to be a struggle enough to get to 65lbs., still have a few issues, after stroke, but think I will be able to get to at least 65lb. used to shoot that as my target bow, and 73lbs as my hunting bow, but those days are gone! Thanks for any info you have. Ive been watching the video you made with Karch, and Ed Thomas, Gets me excited !! I shot a Bison in 1984 with a 73lb Bighorn, and a 2219 and zwickey delta. Got complete penetration and beyond, but I know the Water Buffalo are bigger ribbed and closer together. Thanks for the info! Tickler!

I talked to Fred this weekend. He said he used a 70# buffalo bow, FMJ Dangerous game shafts and his 2-blade broadheads for the water buffalo and recommended a similar set-up. He killed all the North American species with bows in the 50s for draw weight though.
