PL shooters - Mississippi bowhunter

I have been itching for a PL. For the past several years,I have been shooting and hunting with a 68 inch Howard Hill. I want something a little shorter. I have a 29inch draw with the HH. I was thinking a 64 PL would be about right for me. For some of you that shoot straight limb bows and reflex deflex, what is the main difference other than limb profile. Does the reflex deflex limbs feel spongy compared to straight limb. The straight limb is very rigid, which I like. But a little more speed and Shorter overall length would be nice. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm at the same stage as far as getting a PL. Hmmm, I would definitely say more speed. My question is it stable as compared to back-set bows like your HH and my Ferguson with a mild R&R design. We'll keep posted. tom

Shot a John Schulz Legend for years (20) very nice shooter and like it alot But compaired to my PLx , it's an antique as far as performance ,speed, and smoothness goes, the cut to center also makes spine of arows less critical but will need a much stiffer arrow due to center cut and not bending around side of bow Black Widow catalogue has recommended bow lengths for draw length ; I like the longer of the recommended range for my draw, call and talk to Roger about recommendations will see a preformance , smoothness and speed much like a recurve I love both, but there is no comparison

Roger is my double first cousin. Maybe he will drive to Alabama for the spring fling. I could spend some time with a PL.

i also have a HH longbow and a RD longbow and the differences in the two are great. It is hard to explain a HH longbow but for just grabbing a bow and hitting what you aim at (most of the time) i still go with the straight limb longbow.here are some differences: straight limb longbow 1.no need to get use to grip 2.once tuned it will put the arrow where you are looking (if not tuned perfectly they are a pain). 3.no bow any quieter 4.none lighter 5.if you looking for speed or fast look elsewhere but my thoughts are you cant out jump something you cant hear 6.loves at least 10 grain per pound of weight (no light arrows for this bow) 7.body jarring up to a point when you release but you dont realize it UNTIL you shoot a recurve or RD longbow RD longbow 1.have to get us to grip 2.as fast or equal to recurve 3.not as quiet as straight limb longbow 4.heavier the straight limb longbow 5.have to settle in on a shot like a recurve (cant get on target as fast as stright limb longbow 6.easier to get in tune 7.usually dead in hand like a recurve after the shot 8.imo the main difference in RD longbow and recurve is longbow is lighter and a little quicker to get on target than a recurve.performances are close to same.more options on rest and accessories on a recurve.

I love the Longbows. We put quite a bit of fiberglass in our LB risers that does 2 things. 1) It gives the bow more mass weight therefor less hand shock. 2) It makes the handle very strong. I don't know if you could break it if you tried. I also love the takedown when I go to Colorado because I can stick it in a backpack or I have even tied it to my saddle on ole Maggie (my mule).

Hard to beat a PL! You will be pleased. Have one, wish I had 3 if I lived in MS. If deer are as thick south of Natchez along the Homochitto River as they were back in the late 60's to 70's, I would wear one PL out in about 2 weeks. Better wish for 10 more if limits are also still as generous. The wait is a killer!

The grip is a personal thing: I have one with standard and 2 with the Toby grip; I perfer the Toby grip the standard just wouldn't lay in my small thick hand well and caused thump discomfort, seemed to want to rock funny on the thick ball of meat on the palm under the thumb for me, The Toby grip settles comfortably for me

Ah Toby, you know you're held in high esteem by most, if not all of us BW shooters as is the whole crew at BW. Would be nice if some of the others there participated to add some more flavor to the steak. Maybe they do & I don't know their handles? If they already participate, maybe you could list the handles/pictures of employees. Might take a little heat off you from time to time. Seems DennyJr has the matches lately. LOL. BW's forum is far above any others I've investigated. I almost never read any others anymore. We had some ripples a few yrs. ago & Roger would step up to calm the waters. I haven't picked up on any lately. Certainly no bashers. Man Denny! You're stump has horns! Did you notice?

I am not bashing, I am a proud owner of Black Widow products. Roger has been a good friend of mine for several years,I meet him at the Howard Hill shoot in Alabama. Yes Denny you are right,I need to be careful since I just ordered a PL. Denny what pound bow was you shooting in that picture? This will be my first Widow longbow I am excited to get it.

It's too late for that Mississippi. They will miss weight a couple times easy. :) I shot 4 water buffs with a 94# TD PL. I pulled it the other day and it felt like a truck spring.

Heck fire! I was going to order that in stock PLX myrtle/zircote in the morning. Guess he just wasted his time sending me pictures. Guess it will have to be Robertson or Stalker or Tall Tines or, or, or one of them others. Would a box of cookies change his mind?

Good try! When you tick a CEO, Chief or Head Man off, it takes two boxes of cookies to calm them down. Let me know when PL orders are flowing again.

You are just a real good guy! Hope to decide soon. PLX or PSR? Have to get my 13 yr. old grandson setup on Monday as he has the fire & can draw 40# now. After seeing the $ on that, may have to wait for my next retirement check to cover the Widow $. Retirement ain't always that great when it comes to $!
