Widow or SBD string? - Wannaarcher

I ordered a Silent But Deadly six strand bow string for my PSA III. Of course SBD strings are known for quieting bows while delivering faster arrow speeds. Their strings also cost more than twice as much as the BW strings and take 2-3 weeks for delivery. So I was surprised to find that according to my chronometer that the speed was the same as the BW string and I could not detect any difference in noise. What have you found? Scott

i have sbd strings are all my bows.on the longbow it really makes a fps change but on high performance bows like black widow i didnt notice any speed difference (i have chronograph) but it wasnt worth it to goes thru that.i did notice a noise reduction over the d97 strings.why do i get sbd strings i reckon to help quiet a bow a little more (every little bit helps).i use 10 strand(not going to use smaller).

I can get a recurve quieter with the SBD. longbows It doesnt seem to make a difference. As for speed I don't have a chrony so I cant tell.

My experience is the same on no significant difference in speed.....the Widow boys know what they are talking about. They posted a while back that Ken Beck documented there is no speed to be gained on Widow bows with skinny strings. I did find though that skinny strings are indeed quieter which just makes sense but not enough for me to pay the extra $$ for. So I am back to a Widow string and stayin' there. Regards.

I think when Ken did that research he even challenged anyone to come up with the proof and a new Widow of their choice would be the reward. Not sure if there were any takers but the hype kinda died off. Personally I dont dispute the claims but I do see too many fellas shooting high performance bows with worrying low strand counts I wish we could access the old Widow Wall articles before the formatt changed, if we can please show me the way Roger. Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. For a recurve I find my PSA is remarkably quiet with or without the skinny string. So like Big Dog, I am sticking with Black Widow strings all the way. Interesting to learn that this has been researched before with the same results. Scott
